Randy Quaid is an American actor known for his distinctive presence on screen and his diverse body of work across film, television, and stage. Born on October 1, 1950, in Houston, Texas, Quaid rose to prominence in the early 1970s with a breakout performance in The Last Detail (1973), earning him an Academy Award nomination and a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. A graduate of the University of Houston, Quaid trained under drama coach Cecil Pickett. Throughout his career, Randy Quaid became known for his ability to oscillate between serious and comedic roles. He starred in critically acclaimed films such as Midnight Express, Paper Moon, and The Missouri Breaks, but is perhaps most beloved for his iconic comedic portrayals—particularly as Cousin Eddie in National Lampoon’s Vacation series and as Russell Casse in Independence Day (1996).

Quaid received a Golden Globe Award for his portrayal of President Lyndon B. Johnson in the TV film LBJ: The Early Years and has appeared in numerous television roles, including Saturday Night Live and HBO’s Elvis, where he played Colonel Tom Parker. His contributions to American film and television remain significant. With a career spanning over five decades, Randy Quaid continues to be a uniquely compelling figure in Hollywood—equal parts eccentric, talented, and unforgettable.
